Effective date: March 30, 2026
App: TreadCred (iPhone and iPad, iOS 17+)
TreadCred photographs treadmill (and similar) displays, reads workout numbers on your device, lets you review them, and—when you choose—saves a workout to Apple Health.
Most processing stays on your iPhone. Two optional features may send data over the internet:
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for cross-app advertising or “tracking” as defined by Apple’s App Tracking Transparency framework (TreadCred does not request the App Tracking Transparency prompt).
| Data | Leaves your device? | Linked to your identity by us? | Your control |
|---|---|---|---|
| Camera / library photos for OCR | No (processed on-device) | No | Camera & Photos permissions |
| Workout values you save to Health | Yes (to Apple Health) | Governed by Apple | You choose to save; Health permissions |
| Optional training JPEGs | Yes, if enabled & eligible | No account in-app; see PostHog note below | Help improve accuracy toggle |
| Optional analytics events | Yes, if enabled in build | No account in-app; PostHog may assign an anonymous device identifier | Anonymous usage analytics toggle |
| Subscriptions | Yes (to Apple via StoreKit) | Governed by Apple | Apple ID / App Store |
| Local app settings & save limits | No | No | On-device only |
TreadCred is designed not to send the following in analytics or training payloads:
Training uploads send a photo only (resized JPEG, metadata stripped). Workout numbers are not embedded in that file by our preprocessor.
TreadCred uses the camera and can import from your photo library to read display text with Apple Vision, on-device. Images are kept in memory during review; the app is not a photo gallery.
Parsing uses on-device OCR and built-in logic. Optional Apple on-device intelligence may be used when enabled in a future build; that processing remains on-device when available.
Preferences (units, estimation toggles, privacy toggles, subscription-related local counters, etc.) and height/weight you enter or confirm are stored locally on your device.
To offer a free tier and optional subscription, TreadCred may store on your device only:
This information is not uploaded by TreadCred for that purpose.
With your permission, TreadCred may write distance, duration, active energy (calories), step count (when modeled), running speed where supported, an HKWorkout, and treadmill incline as custom workout metadata when available.
TreadCred may read recent height and weight to estimate steps/calories and to pre-fill measurements you can confirm in Settings.
You manage Health data in the Health app. Saving a workout is always your choice.
After your first successful save to Health, TreadCred shows a one-time sheet where you can choose:
Defaults on first prompt: both are pre-selected ON. You can change either before continuing, and change both anytime in Settings.
These toggles are independent: turning off analytics does not turn off photo uploads, and vice versa.
When analytics are enabled in the app build, and you leave Anonymous usage analytics on, TreadCred queues coarse usage events and sends them to PostHog (https://posthog.com) when the app moves to the background.
Examples of events (categories only): app opened; capture started/completed; review started; review summary (e.g. average confidence band, count of fields you edited, coarse equipment hint); save succeeded/failed; scan cancelled; subscription/paywall funnel steps (e.g. paywall shown, purchase started/succeeded/failed, restore); training-upload lifecycle (queued/started/succeeded/failed with coarse HTTP/size metadata).
We do not attach photos, OCR text, workout values, or Health payloads to these events. TreadCred does not call account sign-in or attach your name/email to analytics.
PostHog’s SDK may still use an anonymous device-level identifier as part of normal analytics operation. See PostHog’s privacy documentation for how they process data.
Turn Anonymous usage analytics off in Settings to stop new events; queued events may be discarded without sending.
Note: If a particular app build does not include analytics configuration, no PostHog events are sent.
When Help improve accuracy is on, and after a successful save to Apple Health, TreadCred may upload one compressed JPEG of your treadmill photo to TreadCred-operated ingest infrastructure (hosted on Cloudflare) over HTTPS.
When uploads may occur:
Images are resized, JPEG-compressed, and re-encoded to strip embedded photo metadata. Uploads run in the background with retry/backoff.
If analytics are enabled, separate coarse events may note upload outcome (e.g. success/failure category, approximate size)—not the image itself.
Turn Help improve accuracy off in Settings to stop new uploads; pending uploads may still complete or be discarded per app queue logic.
Optional Pro subscriptions are sold through Apple In-App Purchase (StoreKit). Apple processes payment; we receive subscription status through Apple’s APIs, not your card details.
Free users may have limited Health saves per rolling week after an initial launch period; subscribers receive unlimited saves while subscribed. See in-app Subscription in Settings.
If enabled in a given build, you may use the system Share sheet to export content you explicitly choose (e.g. an image or debug log). TreadCred does not send email or messages on your behalf without your action.
| Provider | Purpose | When used |
|---|---|---|
| Apple | Camera, Vision, HealthKit, StoreKit, system UI | Core app & subscriptions |
| PostHog | Product analytics | Optional; user toggle |
| Cloudflare | HTTPS ingest for optional training photos | Optional; user toggle |
TreadCred is not directed at children under 13. The app uses Health features and optional network uploads; parental supervision is advised.
We may update this policy; the effective date above will change when we do.
